UK IUA Call for Papers Extended

UK IUA 2011 Call for Papers Extended

*** NOTE EXTENDED DEADLINE ***

UK Ingres User Association Conference 2011
7th June 2011, London

Outlines or abstracts for presentations on Ingres, OpenROAD, VectorWise,
open source, or any other Ingres-related topics are invited.

The UK IUA Committee invites anyone working with Ingres or OpenROAD, or
related technologies to submit ideas for papers to be presented at this
year's annual conference.  The conference will take place on 7th June
2011 in Central London.

A sell-out crowd attended the high quality presentations at last
year's event, and with your assistance and contribution, we expect
to once again make this year's IUA Conference an even bigger success.

Outlines and abstracts can be submitted in any reasonable format (e.g.
Word, plain text, Powerpoint, PDF, etc.).   Please submit your ideas for
papers via email to Ray Collins (ray.collins@iua.org.uk) by Friday,
29 April 2011 for evaluation by the conference paper selection committee.
Note that you need only send an outline or proposal at this stage.  You
DO NOT need to provide a complete presentation to be considered.

Notification of whether your paper has been selected or rejected will be
sent by Tuesday 3 May 2011.

Topics we are particularly interested in hearing about this year:

* Ingres 10 implementations and new features experience
* Applications developed with Open Source
* Data extract, transform, load (ETL)
* VectorWise and the future of conversational analytics
* Management issues in Open Source
* Productivity Tools
* Security
* Improving Performance

If you have any questions regarding this year's 2011 Conference, the
committee members are happy to assist. Please send all questions and
queries to info@iua.org.uk.

Thank you to all who have supported the IUA by presenting at our previous
Meetings, Special Events and the Annual Conference in the past, and for
your continued interest and support of the UK IUA.

Please forward this call for papers to any colleague or friend who
might be interested.

Building Novell SUSE Appliances with Ingres

Novell featured their very slick Appliance Studio at the UK IUA conference last week.  If you want to take it for a spin and you want to include Ingres in your appliance, be sure to read Dean Vernon's step-by-step instructions first.

As Dean explains, on the first page of the studio (Choose a base template), it is essential that you click on the "Additional templates..." link rather than one of the SUSE templates, otherwise you won't be able to include Ingres.

UK IUA 2010 Was a Storming Success!

Iua2010-novell-v2

The 2010 UK IUA conference is behind us now, and what a conference it was!  Attendance was up 10% from last year; we had a great new venue with superb facilities, more exhibitors than ever before, and a sneak-preview of the launch of Ingres VectorWise four hours before the rest of the world heard the official simultaneous announcements in the US and Europe.

HIghlights of the conference included:

  • Roger Burkhardt reporting continued growth and prosperity
  • The launch of VectorWise as a GA product, including a stunning demo using the Amazon cloud
  • A demonstation of Novell's appliance technology featuring Ingres
  • Joe Kronk and Emma McGrattan reporting the really impressive results of the development sprint
  • Bill Maimone setting out the new features in Ingres 10, "the biggest release of Ingres in a decade"
  • Karl Schendel receiving the 2010 Ingres Community Award, presented by Rick van der Lans
  • Loads and loads of simply brilliant break-out presentations, including one on an entirely novel algorithm for implementing multi-version consistency control in a way that promises massively improved concurrency

Every year we say the conference is the best yet, and every year we manage to pull off some new triumph.  What will it be next year?

Marcin Zukowski will attend UK IUA 2010

Marcin Zukowski, one of the principal developers of the technology inside Ingres VectorWise will be attending the IUA conference on Tuesday, and will be leading the VectorWise track.   As well as being a brilliant technologist, Marcin is an engaging speaker who will add immense value to what is already promising to be another landmark conference.  Come along to meet him at the event.
